Chrissie 2016

A summary of our cruising on Chrissie throughout 2016

Our new boat, launched May 2016.

We agreed that the boat builder, Stoke Boats, would have Chrissie as their show boat at the 2016 Crick Boat show held over the late May Bank Holiday. Naturally it meant it had to be ready in enough time to get it there by canal. It was a close call.
Just managed to get her to show standard and launched in time.
3 days at the show and showing over 300 interested customers through her.  Jill following me through with the next group front to back. Tiring but worth it for the builder as he took orders at the show and several afterwards.
After the show she went back to Stoke for a few “finishing touches”. More about the boat in “About Chrissie”

This year between late May and Early November, we cruised on the boat for 343 hours, 44 days – almost continuously apart from the odd trip home for a few days.
We covered over 572 miles of “narrow” canals, broad canals, commercial canals, small rivers, and large rivers, which included over 348 locks,  74 movable bridges, 19 aqueducts or under bridges and 7 tunnels, Braunston being the longest at 1528 yards.

Geographically this year we’ve been as far North as Harecastle Tunnel on the Trent and Mersey Canal, to the end of the Ashby Canal near Hinkley, all of the Staffs and Worcester Canal onto the River Severn down to Gloucester and then to the end of the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal.

Chrissie had only been launched a day or so before, and the team were still adding

Cropredy, Banbury and River Thames back to Ventnor Marina

Arrived back in Cropredy Marina on 11th October, this time with the car, as we will need it for all our stuff once we get to Ventnor for our overwinter mooring.
Autumn is a great time to be on the cut, the colours can be fantastic, and most of the holiday rush is over.
This is a trip of 89 miles and 67 locks! Taking us South………
