Early September and we’re on fresh waters for us, travelling up the River Avon to Stratford on Avon.
The river has self operated large locks, some of which are a bit awkward to get in and out of.
It’s a twisty river route of 56 miles and 20 locks but with plenty of scenery and some good moorings.
The last lock, called Colin P Witter Lock, into Stratford on avon is unusual as it’s braced overhead with steel girders.
We stayed in Stratford for a few nights to give us time to explore the City. Whilst there it was the Indian Festival Ganesh, held on the river outside the RSC Theatre, a very colourful if noisy few hours with trip boats being used to offer items into the river.
