Leaving Birmingham and the Bournville secure moorings now on the Birmingham and Worcester Canal it’s not long before more scenic surroundings are with us again.
This is a trip of only 17 miles but 45 locks, that’s 2.6 locks per mile!! And Brandwood Tunnel, next is Wast Hill Tunnel at 2726 yards long, we overnighted shortly after at Barnt Green Reservoir. Then Shortwood and Tardebigge tunnels at 614 and 580 yards.
No sooner out of Tarddebigge Tunnel and it’s the start of the Tardebigge Lock Flight, 27 locks to Stoke Pound.
We did moor overnight mid lock flight between locks 19-20, a longish lock pound and we had moored there before.
Another 11 locks take us through Stoke prior to the junction with the Droitwich Canal and 3 more staircase locks, thankfully with volunteers, and into Droitwich marina.
Chrissie had performed so well all this season, Jill was an absolute star, putting up with my obsession with canals, and steering our boat in and out of 237 locks, thank you Jilly.
The boat was taken out of the water and put on hard standing overwinter.
Before next year I carried out a full service, repainted the gas locker, attended to any areas of hull blacking that needed touching up and gave her a good check-up.
