Now at the end of July.
This return trip is 213 miles, and 99 locks, including Braunston and Crick Tunnels, covering all the canals and rivers we’d used to get to Bedford since we left Ventnor Marina in April.
As can be seen on the map (solid blue lines) it’s a huge loop.
Back to Denver, tidal section to Salters Lode, Middle levels, to Peterborough, River Nene to Northampton, called in at Northampton Marina for pumpout and another look around the Town, then Rothersthorpe Locks, the top lock in the flight gave us some bother as the top gate wouldn’t open enough to let us out, CRT eventually came and dredged out the silt to allow the gate to open. Back onto the Grand Union at Gayton Junction, past Crick, down Foxton Staircase locks, into market Harborough and back to Debdale Marina. From here we went home by train for 2 weeks, and some much needed hugs from the Grandchildren.
Market Harborough was another pleasant stop for us, 2 nights there, recovering. Lucky enough to be there during their music festival in the town centre.
From Debdale it was our intention to go via Leicester back to Stoke for a winter mooring. However, due to the very dry weather the river Soar was very low on water and navigation wasn’t being advised.
So we retraced our steps once more to…………..please read the next blog.
