Wigan to Aston Marina via Macclesfield Canal

At least when it’s a return journey we know what to expect and where services and good moorings are.
This is a trip of 91 miles, and 56 locks from Wigan Dry Dock Visitor Moorings via Heritage Narrowboats on the Macc, to Aston Marina at Stone.
From Wigan back through Manchester onto the Bridgewater Canal to Preston Brook and the seamless joining onto the Trant and Mersey Canal, past the Anderton Lift, a visit into Sandbach for a nice lunch, on to Hardings Wood Junction just before the Harecastle Tunnel.
Very interesting canal layout here because to get onto the T&M we first go under the Macc climb up the 2 Red Bull locks and turn right and back over the T&M in a loop.
Qiet moorings just before an aqueduct over the A50.

Hardings Wood-Red Bull locks

We wanted to visit Little Moreton Hall (National Trust) while in the area and the Macclesfield Canal is the nearest for us.
Then it was back down to Hardings Wood Junction and Harecastle Tunnel.

A brief call in at Stoke Boats, couldn’t pass without calling in, they’re always happy to see one of their boats again. And we needed deiesel.
Onwards to Stone for a couple of nights, mooring above the locks, before arriving at Aston Marina on 15th August.
